The Provincial Government has informed us that we need to accommodate for a population growth of approximately 40,000 new residents in the next few decades.
We are well on track to having already met this goal, especially with the focused intensity of housing that I supported surrounding our three GO train stations.
Combine this with a focus on density in Uptown Burlington, gentle, midrise density at our major intersections and the creative housing options such as more co-ops, garden suites and laneway housing as outlined in our Burlington Housing Strategy and we are in good shape regarding the anticipated intensification.
People chose Burlington as their home because they love the character of the City and the unique character of their neighbourhood.
I am committed to protecting the character of Burlington’s streets and enhancing these protections through our pending Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw Review.
We need to protect the unique character of our community and not allow Burlington to become another Mississauga, that is not what the residents of Burlington want.
My motto is Lower, Slower and Greener development in Burlington.
